Should fiber become scarce on a particular route, UCS Modems support CWDM Optics, allowing multiple circuits to coexist on the same fiber, effectively creating Virtual Fiber. Unlike Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) systems in which the circuits are time sliced onto the media and therefore require an interdependency, Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) is a Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) technique similar to TV channels on a Cable Television System. Each circuit transmits on a different color of light, which are passively separated at the far end. This option allows you to quickly and easily deploy circuits when enough fiber is not available.
