9155 Application Overview

Intelligent demarcation to your customers is just the beginning of the 9155 Metro Ethernet Access Device services. Designed specifically for terminating and distributing Ethernet and IP Services, the 9155's configuration flexibility allows operation as a local Multi-tenant Demarcation Device as well as an Edge Service Distributor, or a hybrid of both. The 4 single Port Interface Modules and the Octal Port Interface Module support UTP, Multimode and Single Mode Optical interfaces, including CWDM and BIDI at Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet speeds. Each port is configurable as User or Network port operation. This allows you to configure the 9155 to the application, not the application to the 9155.
IEEE 802.3ad Aggregation increases bandwidth and protects network access with connection redundancy with sub-second switchover in the event of a link outage. The 9155 aggregates network and customer links independently with up to 6 independent aggregation groups supported. Should your need dictate, the network link can be protected and each customer link can be protected. IEEE 802.3ad Aggregation lets you protect everything on the network link including the Core Switch Port without the need of any special Canoga products at the Central Office or POP Site. Your Core Switch and the customer's switch works with the 9155 to provide needed link protection or bandwidth aggregation. With the 9155 as the customer Aggregation Interface, you enhance security, reliability, availability and consistency of the Core Switch with a uniform customer interface. The 9155 confines individual customer interface quirks at the network edge, not the network core. If problems are to develop from a customer link configuration, better to constrain it to a limited number of customers than risk the core itself.
Flexibility of port configuration and deployment allows operation of network access as contention based (sum of users interface bandwidth greater than network access bandwidth - traffic concentration) or non-contention based (network access bandwidth equal or greater than sum of user bandwidth). Aggregation allows support of one or two Gigabit subscribers with the rest of subscribers at Fast Ethernet while maintaining non-contended access. In addition, you gain the critical service advantage of continued service availability even should one of the network fiber loops suffer an outage.
